Kids and City Life Trenton is proving that kids and city life go hand-in-hand. Trenton offers an endless array of fun things for families with children to enjoy, from playgroups at the Trenton Public Library, visiting children’s events at the city’s museums, to Easter egg hunts and breakfast with Trenton’s firefighters. CitySmiles, Trenton’s high-powered, kid-centered organization, dedicates lots of time to finding fun places for kids (and adults, too!) to play. CitySmiles puts together a weekly listing of fun activities in and around Trenton and works hard to make fun a priority. Groups like the Old Mill Hill Society work hard, too, at making sure kids can play hard. The OMHS Kids’ Committee actively works to bring exciting events to children in Mill Hill. OMHS-sponsored events like the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Fall Festival are designed to give children activities that are fun, educational, and exciting. The Pedestrian Safety Committee of the OMHS works hard to make sure kids are safe walking in the neighborhood. Their primary goal is for automobile traffic and pedestrian traffic to safely co-exist in the neighborhood. Hear first-hand from parents in Mill Hill about their experiences raising children in the city: Cynthia Vandenberg, mother of daughter Devin and son Nicholas, writes: “Living in Trenton gives our kids an opportunity to learn that they are an integral part of their community. By seeing their parents engaged in all aspects of community life--from supporting local arts venues and artists and preserving the natural and historic resources of the city to participating in active campaigns for change in local government policies-- our children have the opportunity to learn about the profound impact that people can have on society through both individual and collective actions.”
