The Garden Tour

Now celebrating its 18th anniversary, the OMHS Garden Tour showcases some wonderful urban gardens. The 2009 Tour, "Urban GreenScapes," will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 12-5 p.m., rain or shine.

This year's theme is sustainability, which some Mill Hill gardeners have embraced by selecting native species well-suited to the central New Jersey climate, growing vegetables, adaptively re-using found objects, making compost, and choosing natural fertilizer.

The nearby 1719 William Trent House, one of the finest early Georgian-style houses in the Delaware Valley and now a city-owned museum, will be open for tours. Garden Tour ticket holders can tour the Trent House for free (a $4 value) during Garden Tour hours, and are invited to visit the grounds, which include a colonial-era kitchen garden.

Enjoy Tea in the Park, where Sharon Levy of Taking Tea in Style will have gourmet iced and hot tea and iced coffee on offer. Ash’s Flower Farm will also be holding a plant sale in conjunction with the Tour (so you can act fast when inspiration strikes), and Stewart’s Root Beer will operate a snack stand. Come spend a relaxing afternoon in Mill Hill!

Tickets

Tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 on the day of the tour. Even if you bought your ticket in advance, you'll need to register at "tour central" at Artworks, 19 Everett Alley at South Stockton St. There you'll get a map of the tour gardens, which doubles as your admission ID. The Artworks gallery will also be open with “The Salon” on display.

Advance tickets for the Tour can be purchased from a number of vendors in Trenton and elsewhere in Mercer County (see below). You can also buy them online!

Group discounts are available if purchasing 10 or more tickets. Call (609) 656-2246, or send email to info@trentonmillhill.org. Don't send credit card details in your email, as it's not secure. A representative of the Tour will call you back.

Parking and Directions

See the map below to find Artworks, which has ample free parking (Stockton Street, between Market and Front). If you're coming from the North on US-1 South, it's at the bottom of the Market Street Exit Ramp (which is signposted to the Train Station). After you park and register, it's a quick and lovely walk along Assunpink Creek to the start of the tour.

Free parking will also be available at The Trent House and a shuttle will run between the Trent House and the Mill Hill Playhouse, a very short walk from the start of the tour at Artworks.
